20 years of Lato Azzurro

Twenty years ago there was no light on the streets, paved recently. The sewers were open sky: everything reported in travel spent in the beautiful countries of the so-called Third World.

Twenty years ago S.Erasmo looked like a pleasant place, forgotten by the world and by Venice, where you can walk along paths of a sudden border, that of timeless, of no place, the absence of reference points that were not Cavalieri d’Italia or Egretta Garzetta ( „Don’t You see that are seagulls!“ Silvia answered in the first walk along the island in 1994).

It was a Seventies house for sale, with volumes for small hotel…

On 31 July 1996 Andrea and I transfered in that house, living for a few months with those who sold it, two pairs: the ‚older‘ and the ‚younger‘. After another twenty years in three they preside over the territory: Rinaldo will turn 97 years on October and is shiny and pretty spry. Hardening of the past, hardening of gardener lagoon…

In the summer of 1997, Il Lato Azzurro already housed curious travelers in Venice and our strange project: a cultural center of Venetian holiday. Tonino had been added, but the founders would never be the same, at the end they remained in two, Tonino and Emanuele. Since then, the most diverse activities have accompanied many years of work to consolidate the alternative tourism vocation of the place: the Festival Theatre on the Island born with Questa Nave and Stalker Theatre, the political courses where came the tireless Lidia Menapace, among more … We even proposed a beautiful course about the poetry of De Andrè. Schoolchildren have never been lacking, accompanied around the island and the lagoon for nature education paths.

Above all, over the years has been forming a network of beautiful and long-lasting relationships, the friendship established by the frequency of stays in the island, of profound encounters.

This is Lato Azzurro.

Sunday, August 21st, afternoon: Lato Azzurro in celebration!
S.Erasmo, 13Forti rd., hotel garden: African music from 16.30 to 19.00.

Monday, August 22nd, afternoon. Between orchards and salt marshes: vegetables, honey and wine, to be enjoyed in S.Erasmo island.
A gastronomic route that starts from lunch and continues for a whole afternoon of pure pleasure between the gardens and the salt marshes of the island.

Tuesday, August 23rd, all day. The islands of the North Lagoon: Burano and Mazzorbo, Torcello and San Francesco del deserto. Visit the House of the artist Lucio Andrich in Torcello, visit to the monastery of San Francesco and walk among colorful houses and ancient vineyards at Mazzorbo and Burano.

Thursday, August 25th, afternoon. From San Marco to the Armenians, itinerary in the Venetian culture, from San Lazzaro degli Armeni to San Servolo, ending in the streets of San Marco, the heart of the city.

Friday, August 26th, afternoon. REPLICA Among orchards and salt marshes: vegetables, honey and wine, to be enjoyed in S.Erasmo.

Saturday, August 27th, all day (hours 9:30 to 17:30): forgotten islands of the North Lagoon, a boat journey to discover the lost places in the Lagoon.

Sunday, August 28th, morning (9.00 – 13.00): Lazzaretto Nuovo and Torre Massimiliana, the story took place here. A guided tour to discover the transformations suffered from the island of Lazzaretto Nuovo and the same S.Erasmo with the militarization of the Venetian lagoon.
13.00: Lunch of greetings: goodbye to … (?)

There is no cost to participate, only the guided tours (Lazzaretto Nuovo, the Armenian Library and Museum, Franciscan monastery, Casa Andrich Torcello), the public transport and private boats and meals / tasting . Everything anyway low cost.
